I just ordered the lumia 925, and I plan on putting it on Metro PCS, because they now run on Tmobile's network and are significantly cheaper for the same service. Is there any chance Tmobile will unlock my device, or will I need to pay a third party? Although Metro and Tmobile are the same company, the phone must be unlocked to accept the Merto PCS branded sim

T-Mo has always unlocked their phones very easily and for free. If you bought it with a down payment plan, you may need to pay it in full first.

From what I've been told, you will have to have the phone 40 days first. Not sure if that means you have to be using it with a T-Mobile account for those 40 days, but I would guess so.

I bought the phone at full price with no service plan, and I've heard all sorts of things about waiting 7 days or waiting 40 days, and I'm having trouble finding a definite answer

never heard of that... i think you just need to be in good standing

it's likely just a roll of the dice depending on which CSR you speak to.

Also, I wonder if you just use it on MetroPCS for 40 days since T-Mobile owns it, maybe they'll unlock it for you after that time? Worth a try...

Metro is $10 cheaper for the same unlimited 4g plan, plus taxes and fees are included so it ends up being $30 cheaper per month for the same service

Since metro runs on tmobile airways, I would imagine you wouldn't need it unlock. A locked at&t phone works fine on straight talk.

Do you think I'd still get Tmobile updates or would I need to update manually?

You would only get T-Mobile updates. Not 100% thou if you do need your device unlocked or not

I'll try with a Metro sim tomorrow, but im assuming that I wouldn't get any updates if I run the phone on Metro right?

That's great! I was thinking of getting a 928 because it's unlocked and will handle GSM too, but they don't list it as compatible on Metro's website (it's native Verizon CDMA, but does GSM as well). I notice that they don't list the Lumia 925 either, so great news that yours works on Metro.

Did you check everything:

Data
SMS send/receive
MMS
Local Scout

Thanks -

John

Wow. Are you sure a locked AT&T 925 works on StraightTalk at LTE? They won't confirm that on the phone. Thx. :Dani

Hi Kevin,

I just got Lumia 925 T-Mobile locked version and I called MetroPCS to activate it. They couldn't find it on their system and asked me to go to T-Mobile store and ask them unlock code. I installed the MetroPCS SIM in Lumia 925 and it doesn't work as you described. Did you do more than just putting your MetroPCS SIM into locked Lumia 925 to make it work?
