Dull pictures on my 925

I recently received my replacement Lumia 925, but for some reason the camera on this phone is making my pictures dull. I turned on photo review to see what the problem was, and it seems like the image is fine upon first capture, but when the image is saved, and photo review shows me the image immediately after, I can see a loss of color. Almost like when you wash clothes with cheap detergent. Yes....it's that bad. I used default settings, and I also tried playing with the settings and still my images come out dull. I'm not using flash, and I make sure to focus on each image. Both the front camera, and the back camera are having the same effect. I've also played with both the default camera and Nokia Camera. I thought it was the exposure levels, but playing with those didn't help much. It's almost as if the camera is not capturing enough light when it snaps the image. I must be doing something wrong since everyone seems to adore this camera(I did too before this replacement)..... When I use the front camera I take screenshots and crop out the camera settings along the borders. It comes out a lot better than when I take a picture.

Is anyone else having this problem or has had this problem? Any recommendations on settings I should use?

Thanks in Advance!

Just to be clear when I said replacement I just meant it replaced the 925 that I damages. This is a brand new phone right out of the box. I get a yellowish tint on the front facing camera, but the main camera pictures just look dull. It's possible that it could be the update, but I'm not sure....it is extremely annoying though.

Most of all Lumias have this issue, even on flagships like 1020 and 925.

For me, the yellow tint is not a problem. What bothers me is the loss of details. However, the worst thing comes when I take photos indoors under neon lights. The photos look like they are taken from a 2 MP phone camera from 2008. Hope they fix it soon.

You can try using Instagram beta app to take a photo, and then press the Accept button to see how different your photo changed :D

I bought my 925 a week before the developer preview was available and was very dissapointed to the picture quality compared to my Galaxy S4.
Tried now camera360 and indeed it does a much better job, but cant access it through the dedicated camera button and missing some options like 16:9 shooting.
I hope Nokia or Microsoft will fix the issue (Dull pictures)

The joke here is that most of us have buyed the Lumia 920/925 because of his great camera, in the case of the 925 with 6 lenses etc... In the real world i realised that the xiaomi red rice of my wife takes better photos than my lumia 925. Why Nokia doesn't fix it? I don't know, the only thing i know my next phone will not be a Nokia.

Do you have any example? My pictures on 925 are absolutely gorgeous.

When I go out with my friends, all of them put their smarts (S4, Moto X, 5s, etc) in pocket and ask me for take pictures and share in Whatsapp or something. My Lumia 925 take much better pictures than any other smarts (except of course 808, 1020 and 1520).

Needs minimal knowledge to take better pictures. Don't expect miracle if you don't have it. Don't expect have good photos without light and flash or with far subjects.

There are a lot of examples in the f?rum. You can search for them. I have an olympus xz1 to take good photos in manual mode but in a Phone i want to shoot in automatic and get good photos. In the lumia 925 this is quite difficult.

Ok, Iphone is better than Lumia 925 to take pictures.

With a wrong hand, even Lumia 1020 can be worst than Iphone or equal.

Same issue here. I replaced my mother's ATIV S (cracked screen) with a 925 and the camera is worse for her than the ATIV S camera. Most of the photos come out very washed out, especially if you are inside and there is a bright spot in the frame like a window or a light or even a bright reflection. About 80% of the photos are washed out and the other 20% look good. The camera firmware seems to be pretty crappy. The ATIV S always produced vibrant photos.

Also the Nokia Camera kinda sucks. I like the easy way of adjusting the controls but reviewing photos is much worse than the Microsoft camera. With Microsoft Camera you can just swipe in from the left to go to older photos. The Nokia camera has two stupid buttons in the top left, one to review only the last photo you took and another to go to your gallery. Very bad.

With all the crazy Nokia fans I expected a lot better from the 925, especially since the camera was supposed to be pretty awesome. My mother is even considering going back to the ATIV S, even if it has two cracks on the screen since the camera was producing much better photos.

Here are two photos I took with the 925

One is washed out, the other looks pretty good. Both are on auto.

Huge issue for me too! Here a photo taken with Nexus 5:

IMG_20140501_120140.jpg

And my shot with Lumia 925

WP_20140501_016.jpg

Both phones in auto mode.

thats.. sad. I bought this phone for its photo quality, and now i want something else. The saddest thing is that even my old Lumia 720 (pre-amber) used to take better photos.. after amber (and still in black) the quality decreased a LOT. With my Lumia 925 all the photos taken without a LOT of light looks bad, death colors in 90% of light conditions. Sometime, just sometime, i can take some shot i like. Like this:

WP_20140502_16_59_01_Pro.jpg

looks good! But here what i shot 1 minute before:

WP_20140502_13_50_57_Pro.jpg

tons of photo with horrible colors :( And i'm 100% sure its totally firmware related. I really have great hopes for the incoming Nokia update (with Wp8.1), i don't want to buy an android as main phone :\

Your Nexus 5 picture looks unrealistic - probably using HDR mode. Notice the seafoam in the water has a reddish tint. Other than the light washing out part of the picture, I think the Lumia picture is better - looks more natural. I do agree though that Nokia cameras tend to take "cooler" pictures than most. Manually changing the white balance will fix that - it's mostly a personal preference which is better.

@PostItNote: Let me post a Windows 7 wallpaper for the italian iso

it-wp1.jpg

ok thats a professional shot and in different light condition, i'm not asking to any phone to take a shot like that :p
But.. if i try to compare it to both the Nexus5 and Lumia925 photos i can tell that the nexus is nearer to this "goal" than the lumia. Maybe thats some hdr (i don't know, one of my friends took it) but it doesn't look *green*.

I'm still hoping in future fixes! :)
