"Why didn't you get an iPhone?"

haha i'm 14 and i got the lumia 920 and you have no idea how many people have told me "O is that the new windows phone 8 phone? its really cool" or "thats a really pretty phone" or "DANG THAT CAMERA IS GOOD!" and if someone tells me something about an app that i don't have all i say is "well can your phone be used as a hammer?"

The iPhone is just flat out a better phone. Its amazing how WP8 users bury their heads in the sand and act as though apps mean nothing. Apps are designed to make life easier, and there are some terrific apps available for every aspect of like, unfortunately no one is making them for WP8.

"apps are designed to make life easier" so evernote, microsoft office, Nokia drive+, Nokia transit and maps all don't make life easier, the apps that are missing are mostly just games and games don't make your life easier. and iphone 5 has google maps but wp has nokia drive +, iphone 5 has great media integration and windows phone doesn't? take a look at the music app on iphone and then compare it to the windows phone one, all the music app is for iOS is just a list its ugly! My dad has the iphone 5 and he hates it because the battery dies in like 6 hours with mild use so i wouldn't call that decent. For great ecosystem windows phone doesn't have a great ecosystem? it integrates with windows 8 pcs and tablets! Great form factor? sure its nice but drop it on a hardwood floor and what do you get? unlike the lumia 920! And outstanding marketing strategy???? WTF! what does that have to do with the user experience!

My brother who is 11 wanted an iPhone really badly. Somehow i couldn't warrant spending so much on an iPhone. Having to pay for the phone, spending more per month and getting less minutes, texts and data for the price. So i got him a HTC 8S. After him showing it to his friends at school, he's now even more excited at the fact i actually got him this phone as he's told me his friends now think his phone is a lot better.

I got him the 8S because he's 11 doesn't need a majorly expensive phone and since i have an L820 i knew he'd be just fine with it.

Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8 can all do this through the Xbox 360 with Xbox Video content using SmartGlass. The experience is very streamlined and allows for switching among multiple screens over WiFi. Admittedly, Xbox Video doesn't have the Blu-Ray add-on items, but I'm sitting out another round of disk-based media in favor of the distribution model of an Xbox Video.

I have XBox at home and also have Win8 installed as secondary OS (I still prefer to use Win7 for most tasks - it does everything I need and nothing I don't need), I know it can be done, however it's not as seamless and as "user-friendly" as with Apple's products. There are other drawbacks too - it is also more expensive in some ways (for example, AppleTV is cheaper than XBox which is significant for people with multiple TV's - yes, XBox can do more but not everyone needs the "console gaming" functionality), XBox takes up much more space (not a problem for some people but may be for others) plus I can find much more (relevant to me) music/movie content in iTunes store. I have no doubts that MS will be able to further improve and diversify their media ecosystem, but right now Apple still provides a better overall experience (at least in my own experience).

I want to be different, WP8 seems, so pure and clean. I wish we had better apps that is all, the main reason was the awesome Lumia range though.

Some people like to enjoy the music and don't care about "ugly" music app, and some people don't care about music and instead prefer to play with "pretty" music app itself ;-) Nothing is wrong with both cases, of course, just different personal preferences ;-)
And let's be more objective - if you want more "pretty" playback experience on iPhone you can just switch to a different view which do show the cover art in various ways:

As most of us are aware, there are times when we need to send a file of some sort from one device to another and the quickest way is bt. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the two devices cannot discover each other even though they share the same profiles and are made by the same company. God, I miss my Pre3 & TouchPad with touch-to-share! At least the OPP profile has been re-introduced to WP8 devices.

Eh, for me the "quickest way" was always through e-mail or SMS/MMS, never had the need to use bluetooth for anything except hands-free calling or music streaming (that goes for every phone that I used to own, not only Apple's products)... But I agree, teh bluetooth implementation is kinda restrictive on Apple's devices... although they do allow the third-party apps to transfer data over bluetooth.

Says the guy who just cited "Outstanding Marketing Strategy" as a reason to get a phone. You mean if Apple introduced a new iBrick tomorrow, you'd buy it just because they know how to market it?

I never got the apps argument. There are times where I have really felt the need for an app or two on my phone but it hasn't really prevented me from getting anything done. Sure, I don't have the latest new game from Disney or the ability to apply the vomit filter on my photos but I don't really care for it either...what I'm trying to tell you is that after a certain point, apps don't matter. I've used the iPhone until the 3GS and played with most apps out there (heck, I spent hours looking up cool apps to put on my phone and then jailbreak it and do all sorts of stuff with it [being a teenager can be weird at times]) and most of them are just there. The point is, as long as you have a phone that acts the way you want it to, apps don't really do anything.

That said, WP ships out with more quality apps and native features than iOS so I've never really felt the need for vomit filtering my photos anyway. Also, Google Maps - uh, really? Why? Didn't you guys JUST get it? After being saddled with Apple's native "map app"? And isn't that REALLY a GOOGLE product? Yeah...buy Apple so you can use stuff from Google. Just like how Apple tells me to buy a Mac so I can run Windows on it. Not to mention, Nokia does more than a great job at providing mapping services to the platform so no, thank you.

As for media integration/better ecosystem - that depends on what you use. If your daddy bought you an iPad to complement your MacBook then yes, the iPhone does serve you better but for me, no, keep it and the nightmare that is iTunes away from me.

And "great form factor/decent battery life" make you look like the one buried with his/her head in the sand.

Not bashing Apple or the iPhone. It is a beautiful product by an incredible company but to treat it like it is the pinnacle of achievement for mobile devices is really taking it too far. If it works for you then more power to you but don't tell me that I have my head buried in the sand when I choose something that works better for me.

Um, I'll be honest here.. I have T-Mobile, so I can't get an iPhone yet. Although, I have a Zune Pass now on WP7.5. And I love listening to all the damn music I want. I upload all my mixtapes to SkyDrive, stream them to my phone. And Office on my phone has saved my school life more times than I can count. I can study for my finals almost-fantastically. When I had an ipod touch, I never managed to find a good solution to 30 pages of notes.

They are putting Xbox Music on iOS, one day. And I'm happy for them. I like Zune Pass very much so, and I want everybody to share that feeling with me.
Anyway, I absolutely plan on getting a WP8.5 this year. I'm hoping Sony gets their act together on WP8.5 this year. Lenovo, ASUS, and LG are jumping on the bandwagon. I think I would love a Microsoft Surface phone.

Oh, and I can pin Yelawolf to my start screen. I love that. ~ But we'll see! WP8.5 and XBOX Infinity 2013!! :grin:

Okay, so it's quicker to open your messaging client, input the recipient's information, compose a brief message, locate the file in question and attach it, then send. As opposed to looking up the file and beaming it to the other device. Not to come off as an A-Hole, but only NFC is faster. But not every device has NFC or even wi-fi direct. A ten year old iPaq has more bt profiles than any idevice.

for me, i want to be different. i find iOS boring and hard-to-use and just plain too stupid (like it's ttly locked in you can't change anything)
also, i have a distaste for popular things as I find them boring. I want to be different. hence windows phone.

Takes about 10 seconds for me to select a photo/video, click on "share" icon, select "mail", select recipient and press "send" (I don't have to type anything in e-mail's subject line or body in order to send it). Works very fast, especially with large files. Of course, it doesn't look as "cool" as bumping 2 phones together and then hearing a special "beep" sound, but I don't need to impress my friends with gimmicky effects ;-) For more personal data that needs to be shared between personal devices only, the iCloud works even better.

I am not a paranoid person I have no problem trusting iCloud for my documents/photos/videos/contacts/bookmarks or trusting EA's Origin and Valve's Steam to manage my game library or trusting Google to read my Gmail's account e-mails. I don't do anything illegal on my PC or any mobile devices - I don't browse child porn sites or download illegal movie/game/software copies from torrent sites (I have no need for that). Why should I be afraid trusting those online services?
