Hey everyone, I just wanted my fellow forum members' opinions on this.

Basically my situation is this:

I own three WP7 devices. Now of course, our WP7 devices won't receive Apollo. Now when I bought my first WP device, I was aware that this might happen, and unfortunately it has. Despite this, I still want a WP8 device From the beginning, I had planned to use a WP7 device to hold me over until Apollo, then later I would sell it once Apollo devices were out.

Except:

  1. Since I am on Straight Talk, only my Dell Venue Pro can received MMS messages without any hassle since I can edit MMS settings in some sort of diagnostic menu. My HTC Titan can receive MMS if I use the Connection Setup app and set it to Consumer Cellular, but then Live services (like Bing and FB/WLM chat) will no longer work. My HTC Titan II cannot receive MMS at all because the Connection Setup app doesn't work for it, and while HTC is aware of the problem, they have no idea what they're going to do about it yet.
  2. I knew the device would depreciate, but not by that much. I think I paid around $350 for a used, excellent condition HTC Titan in January, but now, it's worth maybe $200, and it'll probably only get worse.

I'm sorry, but I really want MMS, and I'm afraid by the time fall/winter comes around, the total value of all three WP devices I own may not even equal the retail price of a brand new unlocked WP8 device. So I'm actually considering selling all my WP devices and getting a used mid-range Android phone, iPhone 4, or maybe a higher-end dumbphone that I can keep as a backup in the future. The upside is I won't lose all my money, and I will get MMS. The downside is I don't really like Android (ICS and JB might be okay, but I'll probably have to do that rooting/hacking stuff since the phones that I would be looking at don't have it yet), the iPhone screen is way too small, and with the dumbphone... I'd have to live without Facebook, GasBuddy, WPCentral, and whatever else I normally use. Either that, or deal with a ridiculously slow web browser.

The alternative would probably be to sell off the HTC's now, and just stick with the DVP since it isn't even worth much now ($100-125), and it probably won't lose as much value as the HTC's would. Only problem is that was my first WP and I didn't quite like it because I hate the PenTile screen, the battery life isn't as good as the Titan/Titan II, the camera kind of sucks, and the call quality doesn't seem to be as consistent as the Titan II.

Sorry for being so long-winded, but anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Your problem is you're married Straight Talk. Get a divorce and get an AT&T Pay As You Go SIM card.

Hmm, I haven't thought about that. The only thing is I'd either have to pay more for similar service ($50 unlimited + $25 1GB data pack for smartphones) or I'd have to deal with less minutes ($25 250 min and unlimited texting + $25 1GB data pack).

If you want a good price on a used android use swappa.com. I bought the phone I'm using now for a great price and it works well. I know it's not wp, but it will do in the meantime.

You're not limited to the DVP (great phone BTW). I'm on Straight Talk as well and I've had MMS & Internet Sharing on the Quantum, Focus and Omnia 7. You can pick up Quantums on eBay for about $100 and the Focus for about $125. The Samsungs are a piece of cake to dev unlock and get the features working.

Isn't the Omnia 7 900Mhz/2100Mhz so I'd lose 3G?

And wasn't the Focus difficult to setup MMS? Like I remember reading something about the 2nd gen Samsungs having a working network profile app, but the 1st gen you have to do a bit of work messing around with a certain file?

And I would think DVP > Quantum. Never really was a fan of LG phones.

for the positive and getting money. Try this in steps. sell your worse phone $100 (LG) you don't want then sell th second one one month later (DVP) . get a iphone then sell it for $499 (Nokia Lumia 900 price). and then sell your HTC titan 2 for $200 when Wp8 released get a budget dual-core Nokia Wp8 device. just think ahead dude. :D. this is how I sell my stuff. plus you save

I'm not on contract and I refuse to sign a contract, so I don't know where I'm going to get an iPhone 4S at a price where I can resell it and make money.

Anyway, I actually bought a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit (formerly Exhibit II 4G) on HSN for $130. Unfortunately it's only single core, and it doesn't get as much support (in terms of how many ROMs there are available) compared to other, more popular Android devices. But for only $130, I think it'll make a decent backup phone.

Also, I seem to be interested in older Nokia's (and other dumbphones) lately. I feel like picking up a Nokia 6590 and/or 3590.

Why not get a Lumia 710, hop onto T-Mobile's Monthly 4G for 2GB of data, unlimited text and talk for $60 per month. And, if you use Calling Mart, you get a good discount on T-Mo Monthly 4G refills. My wife and I have the $50/mo plan for our phones. We spend $93/mo for $100/mo of service. Thanks to Calling Mart!
