Does anyone know if the screen is replaceable?

re:

The parts that make up the AMOLED display are bonded together (glass/LED/touch sensor) so by assembly that's what I meant. The 'guts' like battery, cpu, mainboard, can all be left alone. But on places like ebay you will see people selling just the glass really cheap for AMOLED displays but they are useless because there is no way to replace just the glass without destroying the rest of the display. You will have to spend more and replace the whole display assembly. This is where it's up to you as to if it is worth it, I would guess it would cost $100-200 for the display.

Thanks so much for the info! I bought it for $699, so paying $200 to fix it would be better than buying a new unlocked phone. If I were to search on eBay, what would I be looking to buy? Is this a fix a non-specialist can do?

This is 100% false.

You can remove the glass from the phone with a blowdryer, some effort and a light touch. The problem is finding the glass! I am using a thin plexiglass from a ATIV S Dummy phone until I find a glass replacement.

re:

CJ, I am assuming you broke the glass on your ativ as well. Can you direct to a video that could show me how to remove the glass? Or, if you are kind enough to post some pictures on how to do this.

Thanks

I bought my glass on ebay, and am planning to replace it soon. Just came in the mail actually, so I will reply back to let you know how it went.

Well that was silly. Those light scratches aren't even on the glass it's the oleophobic coating that you made a mess of. I don't think you can do anything about it now.

I don't even know what your replying to... I said I have an 8X and buffed out the scratches but it worn away the coating BUT I didn't ask about anything in regards to my 8X.

I'm asking about the ATIV S... I have a few light scratches but not sure if the ATIV S has a coating over it like the 8X

I'm not sure what you aren't sure about... but anyway...

Yes the Ativ S has an Oleophobic coating too and any light scratches that you can't feel with a fingernail are in the oleophobic coating and not in the glass itself.

You can't buff out scratches without ruining the coating.

I bought the glass screen off eBay and tried to replace my ATIV S cracked screen with it and it did not work.

The the glass screen is bonded onto LED Screen.

You'd be better off replacing the whole assembly than trying to replace the screen your self.

Nothing is impossible. I separated the glass from the AMOLED without breaking it. You need heat to do this.

Those white things are glue still stuck to the screen. Need to clean it up later
