I'm having issues rolling back to 8.1. Tried using the Nokia Software Recovery tool but it says my device is not supported and I need to use the Windows 10 device recovery tool. However when use that, it says that I have the latest software available. Am I missing something?

Microsoft needs Verizon (and other carriers) more than they need Microsoft. So Microsoft is at a disadvantage and has to cater to carrier demands (exclusive agreements). It also doesn't help that the relationship between Microsoft and Verizon was damaged because of the Kin.

The performance isn't perfect, but the game runs so much better on my Icon after the update.

That worked, thanks! Once I turned off Cortana, it asked me to restart the phone to turn her off. After the restart, going into the Cortana options will now give you the option to turn her back on, delete data on the phone and also delete the data in the cloud. Exactly what I was looking...

The only thing I've every said was that if GDR3 was anything to go by, this preview update should be the same update they send to carriers to certify and release to the consumers. Now that I have the preview on my phone, I no longer believe that to be the case.

It's simple: You don't. You let them try the phone and if they like it more, they like it more, if not, it's not the end of the world. There really is no "superior" platform IMO. It's all about give and take, preferences, etc.
