The only way the locally stored contact pictures would come back after a reset would be if they were synced with your Microsoft account. Check your outlook account from a computer and see if your contacts have pictures. Are you importing your contacts from the SIM? If you are, then you will not...

Have you tried a hard reset?

Some people say to remove the card, but I've hard reset my phone numerous times without removing the card and everything picks up right where I've left off. The card will not be touched, so just leave it in and let the update do its thing. Make sure you go into settings and do a fresh backup...

I have a SanDisk extreme 64gb and can't tell the difference between apps installed on the phone vs SD card. Probably a placebo effect, but all apps work flawlessly. I know its overkill, but got it for $40 on amazon during a sale.

You probably just need to sign in to facebook again, also make sure that under the people setting fb is listed.

A hard reset fixes most of these issues after an update. You'll just have to set up your phone again. Make sure you do a back-up first then you'll have a current restore point.
