LED Notifications. Need programmer's knowledge

A thread on XDA has sparked my interest. What if we hacked W10M on Lumia phones to flash the hardware buttons when you get a text? We have the registry tweak to turn all three on/off at once. We know the hardware supports a windows button ONLY (Youtube: youtube(dot)com/watch?v=9DnggGLaIZ4). All we need to figure out now is how to get this hooked into notifications.
Does anyone have any ideas? We were hoping to build it into the source of WPTweaker (github(dot)com/sensboston/WPTweaker)
