It was something someone mentioned as a generality when talking about the future. And then now everyone is running with it.
That can work to your advantage at times. When a company keeps getting asked about a feature that everyone is expecting, it put more pressure on them to deliver the feature for fear of the product being percieved as inadiquate. It would be nice to see all devices have wireless charging built in and be able to use the same charging pad. No more worrying about if you have the right cables. If your friend comes over and wants to charge his phone, no problem, just place it on the charger.
Thinking even further ahead, once many phones have wireless charging built in, places like airports and restaurants could have like charging stations built in to workstations or tables. Put your phone on the special pad, and it'll charge. No more pulling out cables or hunting for wall outlets.
