Again - I seem to be having a lot of newbie questions these days - but as a returning Windows user, I can't help myself :) Hope some kind soul out there will be able to help!!

I know one of the best ways to keep a system hummin is to optimize/defrag it somewhat regularly. Anyone have any tips/tricks/steps to get this done regularly and effectively?

Please have a look at these tutorials :

How to Change Schedule Settings for Optimize Drives in Windows 10

excerpt :
By default, Optimize Drives, previously called Disk Defragmenter, runs automatically on a weekly schedule at the time set in automatic maintenance. But you can also optimize drives on your PC manually.

You are welcome.

There is no such thing as "newbie questions."

An Admin from another forum used to have this at his signature............
There is no stupid question. Only people who don't ask.

There is a 3rd party disk defrag program that I should mention.
I used it for a few years until lately when I decided to try out the built-in Win 10 disk defrag.

Augslogics disk defrag.
https://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download/

It has a Free version. No need to buy it.
Just run it whenever you want to.
It's light and simple to use.
It shows you the progress on screen.
It takes a lot less time than the Windows 10 own native app.
