Hi, I'm running an insider version of Windows 10, I had a legitimate version of Win10 before signing up for the Insider program. My problem is that I am getting warnings saying my current version of Windows is going to expire soon, but when I try to update, it fails. It seems to completely download version 14926 every time, but then fails at the installation part - see below.

If anyone has any ideas on this, it would be much appreciated. I'm hoping it'll fix the massive delay when switching users when I do finally get it. Rebooting makes no difference. No updates since 13th Sept.

You say you have a legit of Windows 10. What do you have a retail Windows 10? The upgrade ISO?

I do say that I have legit Windows, you're correct. I upgraded from Windows 7, Win10 has been fine until a recent insider update, where many of the apps don't respond, and it takes ages to switch users.

Btw the progress I thought I had made above... it still doesn't install. I just go around in circles, the update downloads, fails to install, I run the repair, repair completes... rinse and repeat.

Interestingly, running Windows Update this evening, it downloaded and installed a definition update for Windows Defender, and is currently re-attempting installation of 14926, though I have my doubts that it will succeed.

How did you force the update with the Media Creation Tool? I thought that was just for making bootable media to install from scratch.

Never mind, it sorted itself out tonight. I ran sfc /scannow which failed to complete, but then I got a notification saying that the PC needed to reboot to finish installing an update. It took quite a while and several reboots, but it's now on the latest insider build. Not quite sure why it had all the issues over the weekend, but it has at least installed it now. All's well that ends well I guess.
