Windows 10 build 14385 now available for PC and mobile for fast ring Insiders

Issues? Bugs? Solutions? For all things Build 14383 of W10M. Discuss it all here.

[NOTE]Tip: Check out this thread before posting
http://forums.windowscentral.com/wi...you-[recommended-guidelines].html#post3467172[/NOTE]
Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
[TIP]Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Software Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.[/TIP]
[INFO]Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Software Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version[/INFO]
Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
[INFO]When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don’t find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping … > Upload feedback data."
[/INFO]

Improvements and fixes for Mobile

• You can open PDFs in Microsoft Edge and use touch to interact with the PDF (such as scrolling, pan or zoom) again without it constantly reloading the PDF
• We have improved battery life for older devices, such as the Lumia 830, 930, and 1520.
• We fixed an issue where setting the SIM name on a dual SIM phone would sometimes fail.

Known issues for mobile:

• Voice Recorder does not show up consistently as an option for Call Recording. We heard your feedback and are working actively on this.
• The keyboard doesn't show up consistently for InPrivate mode on Microsoft Edge. We're working on this. A workaround is to click on the Microsoft privacy statement hyperlink on that page and then the keyboard works in the search/address bar. We're working on fixing this.
• REMINDER: We have changed the backup format for Windows 10 Mobile devices to reduce the size of the backup stored in OneDrive. As a result, if you do a backup on a device running the latest Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds and move back to the released version of Windows 10 Mobile (Build 10586) and restore from your backup – your Start screen layout won't restore and remain the default Start layout. Your previous backup also gets overwritten. If you need to go back to Build 10586 temporarily, once you are on Build 10586 you should disable backup so it doesn't overwrite the good backup from Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds.

I see no change so far in this build (for the good, or the bad). Voice recorder still a No-Go for me, but at least it is listed in the known issues - so like the FW, it's just a matter of time.

Note: written 100% from 950XL word flow.

Update went smoothly for me (L830). This is my first RS build, and also the first Fast Ring build ;) I installed this after seeing the notice about battery improvements. I have all the apps allowed in the background, Outlook and Gmail enabled to sync every 1 and 2 hours; Facebook, Twitter plus Aeries, 6tag, Windows Central, MSPU, AAWP Universal, The Guardian breaking news enabled, Glance, Double tap to wake, Cortana and system syncing everything, etc, etc.. Finished the update, I guess around 3-4 AM and I woke up at 12 PM, to see the battery consumption was only 1.5% per hour (Battery Pro+). I guess this is good?
Btw, the new action center personalizing features and settings icons are very cool. Although, the notifications are a bit too thick IMO. And, double tap to wake and some other settings from 'Extras' have been moved to other parts but they also can be found at the Extras, under Display/Touch anyway. I guess that could be organized better.

Remaining problems (Coming from the 10586.456)
-Lumia Camera Beta is gone
-Still no Stereo and/or 5.1 surround sound recording for videos.
-Adjust Brightness resets itself after manually adjusting it.
-Tap / tap and hold the battery saver icon (action center) doesn't work while charging (I want to see my battery usage, okay? )
-Proximity sensor responds so slow (for glance screen)
-Marking mails 'read' doesn't sync efficiently between Mobile and PC apps. (I checked this with browser and it seems the apps don't really upload this to the server that quick, if ever)

Better aspects:
-More settings available for background app permissions
-Personalizing the action center
-PC-Mobile notification sync (I haven't seen it in action, TBH)

Other cool stuff:
-System responsiveness is very good
-Nothing has crashed so far :winktongue:

Been having some battery use problems on 950XL DS with the last couple of builds, when everybody was I wasn't, odd.

I also had some odd start menu blank icons hanging around. I delete the games and most of the apps that come with the OS and then the app icon would stay as blank but it was not functional. HR did not eliminate it so I did a WDRT restore, the was able to flash to 14383 directly. I first gave the phone a couple hours to update and settle down, then I deleted every app I could and will install a couple things a day, AM then PM to see when the battery use starts.

Last evening I flashed 14385 without a HR so we shall see. I have noticed that the second set of app updates usually will go through 12-18 hours after the initial updates, like for Wallet etc. I did those this AM, linked my BOA card so now I plan to leave it alone till later for next step.

I downloaded it last night at midnight and that was the fastest i have ever seen a build download. It maxed out at my ISP's full potential at 175Mb/s almost the entire time.

The sticky notes "bug" is still there. Where it leaves the notes on the desktop after i close the sticky notes app. ALL other demos and videos i have seen of people using sticky notes is the opposite...it hides them in the app for you to view only when you open the app. This is a nice setting because having the notes on the desktop makes it look kind of fugly

i am planning on joining the insiders to try out the anniversary update on my L 730 , i am looking for general comments on how well is the os in terms of stability and app responsiveness. i am in the middle of a vacation so battery lose isn't a big worry for me and also in comparison with the current threshold build .420 where does the redstone build 14383 stand against it ? presently i am very much satisfied with the production .420 build.

Hey abhishek, the latest OS fast ring build as of this moment is: 14385; I find it to be VERY stable for me on my 950XL; and would recommend to any other 950XL user to go for it (but understand that there is still a risk of an app that THEY specifically use not working correctly).

As for your situation with the L730; I would ONLY weight the input and recommendations from your fellow L730 users...AND NO OTHERS! for the experiences are varied by model, and what is great on a Lxxx, may not be a pleasant on a L730. Also, I would wait until you return from vacation to update, UNLESS your traveling companion(s) have a phone that you can rely on for the remainder of your travels (Maps, Airline Schedules, Taxi, Uber, Calls, APPS, etc.).

Had a freeze just now on this build - first freeze I have had in quite a few builds now. Froze on splash screen of Twitter app. Had to soft reset. Left feedback via "Did you restart this device because of a problem?" question.

Does anyone still have the bug where when you swipe to the all app list, the app icons are blank?

Or Is it just me?

This annoys me so much

This build works more than fine on my L735. Some apps lag in performance (like 6tin), but guess that will have to be taken care off by the developers. Battery life is less than the old branche, but if that is not a dealbreaker for you I would definitely install this latest build.

Here is a bug in 640LTE. You got 2 glance menu: In "Personalization" and "extras"

Glance is work, but no way to setting it. In Personalization only "active" or not menu, night mode, and how long glance will be active (10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc)

in extras you can set what will see "Mode", "Application" etc but you cant use it since it will force close or blank.

Already hard reset and bug still remain.

I would have been shocked if the phone had done those high speeds but you mentioned pc - this is the mobile insider forum

After checking, the Glance option has been removed form my 'Extras' menu (when, I have no idea), and only shows in the Personalization menu.
