Windows 10 build 16179 for PC and 15205 for Mobile now available for Insiders | Windows Central

    Microsoft

Changes, improvements, and fixes for Mobile

    1. We fixed the targeting issue that caused some variants of the Alcatel IDOL 4S to not receive Build 15204 last week. All variants of the Alcatel IDOL 4S should receive Build 15205.
    2. FYI: We fixed the issue where supported Windows 10 Mobile devices were showing the update to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update as “not yet available” in the Upgrade Advisor app.
    3. We fixed an issue where Continuum would stop working when HP Elite X3 case is closed.
    4. We fixed an issue where Continuum would hang or render incorrectly after disconnecting on devices like the Lumia 950.
    5. We fixed an issue with Microsoft Edge where you might get into a bad state after opening a new Microsoft Edge windows and screen off with the JIT process suspended.
    6. We fixed an issue with where the device screen might stay black when disconnecting from a Continuum dock after screen has timed out normally.
    7. We fixed an issue with backup and restore which impacts users with slower network connection.
    8. We fixed an issue around Microsoft Edge reliability.

    Known issues for Mobile

    1. A small percentage of devices may experience text message backup loss related to backup and recovery of the messaging database.
    2. For Insiders who have upgraded from a prior 150xx build to this build, the “Add Bluetooth or other devices” Settings page and the Connect UX page may fail to open.
    3. The copyright date is incorrect under Settings > System > About. It shows as 2016 when it should be 2017. Thanks to the Windows Insiders that reported this!
    4. Insiders may experience random shutdowns on some devices.

This build and version is the latest Redstone 2 build in testing for Mobile Insiders on the Fast Ring.

Is your device behaving oddly, is something just not right? This is the place for discussion of software and hardware issues!
Here is some useful information you may find yourself needing.
Some issues with responsiveness and app delays can be resolved by either restarting your phone or performing a Soft Reset.

If things get a bit more serious, you may opt to perform a hard reset or software reset.

Lastly, if things really get serious, you may need the Windows Device Recovery Tool to recover your phone back to working order - head over to the Microsoft FAQ Page for more information.

Make sure you check the official Windows 10 Mobile Support Page as well for some of the most common tips and trouble shooting guides.

Restarting your phone involves turning it off and then turning it on again. Turn off your phone by pressing the power button until you are prompted to "Slide down to power off". Turn your phone on again by pressing the power button until it vibrates.

A soft reset is similar to pressing the reset button in PCs and has the same effect as pulling out the battery of your phone and then putting it back in. For phones with non-removable batteries, press the volume down and power button together until your phone restarts. Be aware that when using Windows 10, the voume down and power button combination will also launch Windows Feedback. Just continue to hold down the buttons for a full 10 seconds in order to trigger the soft reset. For phones with removable batteries, you can either opt for the button combination or remove the battery and then return it.

A hard reset or a software reset will reformat your phone by removing all the user information leaving only the bare OS and firmware currently installed in your phone. It does erase data so you should always keep a good backup of your phone just in case you have to resort to this option.

The software reset can be done by going to your phone Settings > System > About > tap on "Reset your phone." You will be prompted once before doing this just to be sure. Be sure, also, to have everything backed up since there would be no way to recover all of your files.

The hard reset accomplishes the same thing as the software reset, but can be accomplished when the phone is non-responsive and you are unable to enter into settings. To perform the Hard Reset, "Power off the phone > hold Volume Down > press Power > keep holding Volume Down until you see the exclamation (!) screen, then immediately release the Volume Down. Now tap Volume Up / Volume Down / Power / Volume Down. You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery.

The Windows Device Recovery Tool is the final option, for example for "bricked" phones that would no longer turn on, be charged, etc. This can be used to either roll back to a previous OS version or force an update to a more current OS version

Remember, when reporting bugs be descriptive! The more information you give, the better the chance someone will be able to help you.

What OS version? Any special conditions that should be noted? What were you doing? What is the result? Any error codes or messages given? What have you tried for solutions? What variant of the phone are you using? Single SIM or Dual SIM?

Please describe as much as possible about the bug so others may try and replicate the bug and don't make suggestions for solutions that you have already tried which have failed.
When reporting bugs/issues, please also use the Windows Feedback app to report issues directly to Microsoft. Microsoft don't actively read forums looking for people reporting issues when they have a data collection system built right into the operating system. They use WF to analyse numbers and prioritise fixes (issues with more reports, get sorted quicker).

"You can use the Windows Feedback app to tell us which features you love about your Lumia with Windows 10, or when something could be better.
1.To launch the app, swipe over to the App list, and then select Windows Feedback.
2.See if someone else has given similar feedback by entering the topic, such as Microsoft OneDrive.
3.If you find similar feedback, tap the Upvote or tap on the feedback to open it, write the problem details to Add details-field and tap Send.
4.To narrow your search to a specific topic, you can filter the results by picking the category that matches your feedback the closest. For example, for feedback about the Microsoft OneDrive, select Apps and Games > OneDrive.
5.If you don’t find any similar feedback, tap + to add new feedback. Select the correct category and subcategory from the dropdown-list.
6.Enter your feedback (the more details the better!), add a screenshot if you can, and tap Send.
7.Your feedback will automatically upload when you are charging your phone and connected to Wi-Fi, but you can also upload the feedback manually by tapping … > Upload feedback data."

This has been an ongoing dispute as I felt we were still in rs2. I guess the release notes confirm that.

My 950XL suddenly restarted today so I put it on charger and left it there for 15 minutes. When I came back, the phone was stuck at Microsoft logo screen. I tried a soft reset to no avail. Now it's been stuck at that screen for a while. Shall I wait some more or do something? It was so random. The phone worked great after the update, but now this.

Anyone with a Dual SIM phone experiencing Network issue?

When using data from SIM 1, phone will fail to detect network from SIM 2. Likewise, SIM 1 will fail to detect network when switching over to using data from SIM 2

This has been the case since build 15204 and now 15205.

At the risk of speaking too soon, Live Tile performance on this build seems better. I still have the problem of the Outlook Calendar live tile not working after app updates. Each time, I have to add an event and delete it to get the live tile to start working. Otherwise good so far.

Could it be that your telcos are in the process or had already decommissioned the 2G network?

I'm having lockup issues, phone will randomly freeze requiring a hard reboot. This has happened a few times since install. On the plus side, no more issues with Edge text input and I've had no random restarts. A new issue that has surfaced is that the phone screen wont rotate on occasion, also requiring a reboot to resolve. HP Elite X3 US.

Just installed today on my Lumia 950DS, and everything seemed good. It's only been about 10 hours, but so far performance has been as brilliant as 15204 or whatever the previous FR version is. Hopefully it'll maintain the same performance level, or better.

EDIT: Outlook e-mail notifications in the Action Centre is still broken. The only way for me to know if I have an e-mail is either through the Outlook notification on my lock-screen, or from the live tile. Could anyone please tell me if you know of any workarounds to fix this? It's been there since the CU FR builds, and after all those OS build and the Outlook app updates, this is still happening.

P/S: I've tried enabling notifications, banners, and all that from the settings page as well as the Outlook Mail app itself, yet the same thing happens. I've yet to reset the app or perform a Hard Reset as I'm in a busy period of my university semester and I really need my phone to be in a usable condition in all times to communicate with my project group.

No known problems. I have being running this build since the 15th. Only thing I have noticed is greater battery life, a good thing. The rest of the listed fixes are of little importance to me, except maybe Edge improvements. I would still like to see a repeating messaging notifications option. Continuum is a cute exercise, but really I will just carry my laptop. 950LX Dual Sim, if only it had my 1020's camera it would perfect.

As weird as it sounds, I am LOVING this update on my 1320! Phone runs faster and I have yet to experience any random freezes or screen tearing (both of which happened OFTEN before this build).

Ar, now that you mention it...

Yes, the telco here have indeed decommissioned the 2G network just recently and I've clear forgotten about it.

No wonder the SIM 1/SIM 2 is not working now when the other one is active.

    Thanks
