The app list looks so bad with all these ugly squares around old school desktop application icons. This has been a problem ever since w8 was introduced. Don't get me wrong, I love live tiles and modern app icons that are designed to be square. But on the desktop it just looks horrible to shrink every icon and thing inside a square. It makes for terrible color combinations and the shrinking ruins the icons. They always look blurry and not smooth.

Will Microsoft ever address this?
They should either remove forced squares around everything or stimulate developers to update their icons for desktop applications. Otherwise it will look forever ugly.

It is funny, once a desktop application is opened and on the taskbar, or pinned, it doesn't have this square around its icon. So it looks inconsistent with the icon in the app list. Also modern icons look worse in the taskbar because now they are shrunken. I hate the fact that the icons don't cover the full height of the taskbar. It would look so much better.
