My gut says that, even though firmware might not be a requirement, it's probably a good guideline.

Common sense says it's not a good idea to run technical preview software, intended for to run with firmware D-E, with firmware B.

Old Lumia 810 user here. I was supposed to splurge on Mclaren when it was supposed to come out last Fall, but that never happened. So I'm waiting on the next flagship to (finally) upgrade this thing.
We'll see how this old thing reacts to the W10 preview, if I even get a shot at it
If not, late October struggle bus wait here I come.
