Good day to all,

I have been participating on the Windows Tech Preview program and now I'm updated to version 10041. I enjoy the opportunity to be part of this build.

Getting to the point.
Real issues with Realtek audio drivers, Since the first Windows 10 preview my audio driver has gone nuts popping a "you just plugged/unplugged a device" notification every 5 seconds or so. Quite annoying, as it will also cut the sound off for a slit second of what ever media I'm playing.

So the work around to this issue:

Disable front panel jack detection
Realtek Connector settings.PNG

On device advanced settings, Playback Device select Make front and rear output Devices playback two audio stream simultaneously.

After these steps you will see a bunch of new audio connectors at the top of the Realtek control panel, select your default speakers and communications device by right clicking on the icons.

This should get rid of the annoying pop ups and sound cut offs. This is a band aid that will help you enjoy the Windows 10 Tech Preview even better. As Windows 10 is still being cooked and not ready for consumers, cant expect everything to work right.

Enjoy!

My specs:
SSD OCZ Vertex 2 128GB
AMD T1090 Phenom 2 BE X6
MSI GD65 v2. 990FXA
EVGA GTS 450 SLI x2
RAM Kingston Hyper X Genesis 16GB
Realtek ALC892
Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10041. X 64
H2O chilled.

I'm having issues too but I can't even get the drivers to install. Still working on it.

Thank you so much for this. Un-checking the front panel fixed my problem. Now when I reboot my computer I still have sound. I didn't before. You're the man!

Same problem, 10041 totally nuked my sound. When I tried to run the latest's Realtek drivers it timed out on the install. I went back to the Acer site and downloaded the drivers from the support page (yea, I know they are 5 years old.) Low and behold they loaded up and I have sound.

Acer Aspire 5542 (old but does what I need it to and seems to like Win10)

Working fine for me on 10041. Realtek Driver Version 6.01.7240 dated 5/6/2014. Motherboard is an Intel DH77EB.

I had the same issue when I upgraded Acer Aspire 1 A110 to 10041. Here is a link that talks about realtek issues. It has a link to another site that has a registry fix that works. I applied it and the drivers installed fine. I don't have the required number of posts to post a link, so just do a search and there is a Microsoft answers page that has a link to a registry fix. I applied it and was able to install the drivers just fine.

Run the installer in administrator mode. That usually fixes all the installs in Windows 10.

Thanks DaKine73. I think I finally got it to work before I went back to Windows 8.1 though I don't remember how.

I am now going to wait for the final version to be released before I install win10 again.

Lucky you, I don't even have a front panel software :P my MOBO is too old (P7P55D-PRO from ASUS) and can only go up to Windows 7 in drivers. I mean I tried running them in compatibility mode but..... urrrrgh it messed up Windows 10 big time, so I left it like that until the RealTek audio driver update from the Windows Update came up and messed my whole audio up. I couldn't do a system restore either so I was stuck with an audioless Windows, so I was like.... meh might as well go back to 8.1 then.

I still have the problem with Windows 10 TP updating realtek HD drivers from Windows Update. I tried to install it maually, but got an error "timeout" in device manager.
