Why can't I roll back from Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3?

I've been banging around on Windows 10 but I want to go back to Windows 8 to get some stability back. Unfortunately, the options I've read for doing this don't appear to be working. I do not have the option to rollback or boot the technical preview on start up. I decided to try creating a USB recovery drive following MSFT's instructions but when I boot using the Volume down/power button combo, nothing happens. I've also tried specifying that under the recovery section in the system settings and the USB drive flashes a couple times getting my hopes up and then the PC proceeds to boot normally. Am I missing something?

Do you live near a Microsoft store? This happened to me, they reformatted it to me and brought me back to windows 8.1

if you go to settings/update & recovery/recovery....don't you have something saying like "Go back to previous version"?????????

You may not have gotten the USB drive setup properly to boot off of. Attached is a text file, that walks you through creating a bootable USB drive (for some reason the forum filters won't let just type the instructions anymore).

I installed W10TP on my SP3 for a couple of days, I did have the roll back option. But even doing the roll back, I eventually had to do full factory reset because things just didn't work properly after rolling back.

Google for Windows 7 USB DVD download tool, make bootable usb stick with that tool, and try booting from it.
