Hmm, I presume you really wanted to refer to your computer even if this was posted in the Windows Phone area.

Reservation for the free upgrade is currently on-going - users of Windows 7 up to 8.1 PCs should start seeing a Windows 10 icon in the tray notification area. Clicking on that would guide the user through the reservation process, which will give the user the option to upgrade to Windows 10 for free once it's available. The consortium is that after the reservation period, upgrading to Windows 10 may no longer be offered for free.

Whether it is going to be good or not depends on the user's tastes and preferences; personally, I think it would be good.

If nothing is wrong with your hard drive and that your PC has downloaded the installation packages completely (which will be done automatically if the user avails of the Windows 10 upgrade reservation), then your computer should not crash during installation. But this can be affected by a lot of external factors, most of which, however, should not be caused by Windows 10 itself.
