Why is my external USB hard drive not found?

Hi,
I have installed the latest build 10158 and have the same problem that I have had in previous builds,i.e. that my external drive is not showing despite being listed in Device Manager as installed and working correctly,have tried disabling re-enabling,uninstalling etc.etc. with no effect.Any suggestion would be most welcome.

Have you tried booting your system up with the external drive connected?

What device are you using? What's the exact nature of your external hard drive?
