Problems with Windows 10 on Dell Vostro Driver problem?

I have an old Dell Vostro 1500 laptop that the screen no longer works consistently. I thought it would still be good enough to install Window 10 on to try out and hook it up to an external monitor. Install went fine and everything was going well. I hooked up the external monitor and couldn't get it to work. About the same time the LCD screen on the monitor stopped working as well. I know its a long shot, but could this be some driver issue with the laptop video card? I installed Win 10 64bit. Would reinstalling with 32 bit be more apt to work? Thanks for any insight.
