I just wanted to clarify (I have done research and I just haven't been able to find the answer to this) but if you are part of the Tech. Preview on your computer if you had a legit version of Windows 8 on your laptop originally will you be able to leave the tech. preview and go to just normal Windows 10 when that comes out later this month?

If you installed the tech preview by upgrade from 8.1 and not a clean install, then yes. You'll get the RTM and it will be valid/genuine.

If it's a clean install, you can stay in the Insider program to have a valid/genuine, albeit beta version, of Windows. Otherwise, you'll need to roll back to 8.1 first and upgrade to RTM to get a valid/genuine copy.

Thanks i was wondering the same thing Don Geronimo. I installed insider preview 10162 from ISO on top of genuine 8.1 pro. I did not do a clean install exactly but i didn't go through Windows Update either. I dont think it matters though because i still installed a fresh copy of 10 from ISO. So i think ill need to roll back to 8.1 pro to get the final version of windows 10.

Part of me wants to stay in the insider program to see all the new builds and functions that come out after windows 10 is released. However, i dont want to be stuck in the insider preview after july 29th if at some point i wish to just get the full version. I guess i could roll back to 8.1 pro at any time after july 29th but i dont know if that "get windows 10" icon will pop back up again and be able to upgrade down the road.
