Why is the store not downloading my apps on Windows 10?

So today, as it is all over Windowscentral, some of the MS core apps and VLC for Windows 10 got their updates. However, they are stuck at 0% and showing no signs of progress. Do you guys have the same problem and how to fix it? I've tried cancelling them all, rebooting and download on at a time but it was no use. Many thanks.

Yep, same here, 12 apps are stuck. The recent Windows update screwed it all, Mail, calendar, Note and store. Even uninstalling that update didn't work. Can't figure out how to make it work.

It happened to me also. Slow internet connection is to blame for 0% progress of Store app updates.
What helped me was this: Disconnect internet connection and reconnect, then open Store and quickly go to downloads section. Close all downloads, and do not use those apps yet. Click check for updates and minimize Store, don't close. And final step...wait. Don't use internet browsers or other internet based services for at least one hour or two, I guess on slow connection Store downloads stop because of that. My connection is unlimited but now i had spent my data package so i get like 9.2 KB/s... waited for several hours and all apps are downloaded successfully. Good luck. :D

I dint think slow internet is the issue. I have an unlimited 1mbps plan. Hope MS releases a fix to this soon.

It could be a server-side issue, considering that a lot of Windows 10 upgrade files (the OS installer) are being released to a lot of PCs worldwide. I've got the notifications for update as well, but the download speeds are also slow (0.2 MB downloaded in two hours).

No issues here in the UK. I'd say this is region-specific and most likely something MS has to sort their end.

There are some good suggestions on how to fix that in this thread: http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-10/373623-2.htm

What worked for me was this:

1. Run an elevated command prompt (Type "cmd" in Search, then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter).
2. Type following commands:

net stop wuauserv
move "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old"
net start wuauserv

3. Reboot
4. Try to download something from the Store.

Disconnect from the internet while doing this. just to make sure windows update really turn off and not downloading any updates

Hope this helps! :)

Another item that may be worthy of checking: make sure that any third-party anti-virus, firewall or network monitoring software (not network speed testing apps) are uninstalled from the PC.

I had this problem until I found that a third-party anti-virus software was still in my PC (although it never ran again after the upgrade to Windows 10, making me think that it was automatically uninstalled) and decided to uninstall it for good. After restarting my PC and bringing the store back up, the downloads finally started. Windows updates also began downloading.

Store won't even open for me. Loading icon spins for a while, then i get either a store app crash or a message saying that something happened on their end.

Reboot in safe mode and rename c:\windows\softwaredistribution

I had the same problem and using a suggestion from a comment below, I managed to correct it. Basically, reset the Windows 10 store downloads and updates while booted into safe mode.

Do this by restarting Win10 in Safe Mode and then rename c:\windows\softwaredistribution to c:\windows\softwaredistribution.old (or some other name that you'll remember just in case). Restart Win10 normally.

The easiest way to restart in Safe Mode is to hold the SHIFT key when you click the RESTART button and then follow the menus to Safe Mode.

When you restart, Win10 rebuilds the directory. You'll want to start the store up again and restart any new downloads and app updates that were cancelled by the reset action.

I hope this helps.

I'm in the UK and can't even see an 'install' button in W10 Store. Have two apps stuck, both with 'starting download' status. The pc was new in May this year on 8.1.
Think I might go back to 8.1. Not sure if I can then update back to Windows 10.
