Sorry if this is covered before.
I have a laptop which is around 7 years old, running windows 7 64 bit.:

Satellite L500D-164 - Toshiba

I got the windows 10 upgrade invite. Although it fits the minimum requirements Is it really realistic to install windows 10 to this machine? I mean it is already borderline ok, gets slow if I open 10+ chrome tabs. But it can benefit from a fresh install of windows. Anyways, anyone who has an experience with older hardware + windows 10?

Thanks

Installed win10 Pro 64bit on 8-yr-old Dell Latitude D430 with only 2GB ram. Works just fine. Edge is really slow on sites with lots of ads though, which was noted. I had win XP, 7, 8, and 8.1 on it before.

Why not? It's a free upgrade and it has 4GB memory. The only thing that gave me pause is the graphic card adapter. It's an old model and wouldn't be able to use DirectX 12.
On another note, try to use another browser if Chrome is too slow. Or install an ad-block extension on Chrome. Chrome is also known as a memory eater.

I upgraded an HP Pavilion 9850 to Win 8 (from Vista) & then to Win 10, slightly slower but no real discernible difference in speed.

Re: install window 10 on old computer - D430

Edge,

Could you please give me detailed instructions as to installing Win 10 on s D430. I have tried numerous times but cannot get a successful install. Last time I ended up with a 0xc1900101-40017 error. I am not a beginner; I've worked with PC's since 1985, but all that I have read for solutions do not work.

Any information you need from me will be provided.

To date, I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version, and have updated all drivers too. I don't know what else to do.

Thanks
