why want my store and phone companion open. phone companion no longer works to download my ipone 5

when windows 10 downloaded most software worked
my store and phone companion worked and as of two weeks ago neither one works how do I fix this

Sadly it has become a staple for us windows 10 users to reinstall problematic apps and/or downgrade to 8.1 to get things working.
