High Disk Access after going to W10

Hello,

Since upgrading from W8.1 to W10 on my desktop I have noticed my computer being much slower - sometimes.

12GB RAM
1TB (90%)
I7-4770
HP700-149

I checked task manager and the HD has disk access of 100%. Access times are as high as 7300 ms for the most part it is about 2400 ms.
Windows Defender is using up 38% of my CPU

It just finished a scan.

Does that make sense?
