Very low sound level after installing the Anniversary Update

I recently installed the Anniversary Update to my Asus laptop. After that the general sound level level on my system has been very low even at full volume. The sound level from audio and video files is acceptable but the system/notification sounds are almost inaudible. I had similar issues when I updated my OS from Win 7 to 10 last summer but reinstalling the sound driver fixed the issue. This time, reinstalling the driver didn't change anything.

Any suggestions? I really wouldn't like to go back to Threhold builds. The device manager shows my sound card as Realtek High Definition Audio.

can you check for driver updates from their website? Or waiting for the next update to solve things?

Thanks for replies. The driver hasn't been updated since 2015 but I'll try full removal of the driver.
