My icons just died. All of them

Every icon throughout the system - drives, explorer, desktop, everything. There isn't an icon anywhere that displays. Which makes it pretty hard to use.

Resetting icon cache doesn't help. Toggling tablet mode doesn't help. Adjusting icon spacing doesn't help. Restoring *.ico file association doesn't help.

Please help me, this is pretty bunk! (I do have a backup, but it was awhile ago)

Use the Media Creation Tool (MCT) and do a repair install ( also known as In-place Upgrade Install).

Download the iso file > right click at it > click Mount > click Setup ( or setup.exe )

That will begin the install.
No product key is required.
It allows you to keep your files, settings and apps.
Activation is automatic.

Oh and just to add to the fun, right click properties on any drive does nothing. Running dism/sfc. But might be wildly corrupted and need a restore from back-up.

Which will mean, a restore, redoing the creators update, and re-installing like a dozen apps. Life sucks sometimes as a techy, but I suppose at least I can get it back...

Unless anyone has any wild ideas?

That fixed it. Good thing too, as I had installed CU, and a host of chrome and UWP apps on my tablet since last backup.

Doing a macrium backup now to mah 128gb nub. Safe
