I can't remember how much RAM Win7 used at idle. Win8 is using 1.1GB of RAM at an idle with no programs running.

this could be more snice you have 8 gigs of ram it might up the amount used at idle depending on what you have installed

Windows 8 actually uses less memory than win 7 at Idle

I got 8GB RAM too and my Win 7 boots at maybe closer to 1,5gb RAM user. I would say that it does indeed scale with the available RAM and the OS "edition". My Win7 starter on my netbook (that only has 1GB) sure doesnt start at 1,5GB ram used
