Sounds like we may end up with incompatiable hardware again. At least it will not be for a while.

If I'm understanding the article correcting, the problem isn't with the kernals but with the APIs. Windows Phone appears to be the odd man out, sharing very few APIs with Windows RT. That makes it impossible for developers to build one app that works on both RT and WP. It sounds like Microsoft wants to bridge the API gab so developers can easily build apps for both markets. The shared kernal means that Windows Phone users should be able to upgrade to the next iteration of the operating system with the newer APIs. My concern is whether older handsets can handle a beefier and more processor hungry OS.
