Hey WPCentral,
I don't know what happened to my Surface 2, but somehow quite a few apps disappeared... As far as I can tell only Microsoft apps seem to have this problem. Two weeks ago or so I realized that my Mail app did not work properly. It would crash every time I tried to open it. So I restarted my S2 a few times, tried to open the app different ways but nothing would help. So I uninstalled it (with the people and calendar apps) and reinstalled everything from the windows store (your apps section).
After doing this my mail app was working again and almost all the settings were saved properly.
A few days later (I wanted to watch a video) I could not open the file because no app for playing it was installed. At least nothing appeared in the "open with" list. So I tried to find the Video app and open the file manually. But, unfortunately, no video app could be found... So I opened the windows store app, went to the "your apps"-list and found the video app listed as "not installed". I installed it and also got the message from the windows store that the installation was completed. After doing this still no video app could be found. Normally, after installing a new app, when on the homescreen a small info on the bottom of the screen would appear. Something like "you have 3 new installed apps" or so... But that is not the case any more.
After finding out about the issue with my video app, I tried to find other microsoft apps... For now I can say that video, skype, maps, reading list, One note (touch), minesweeper, wordament and bing finances disappeared and I am not able to reinstall them.
Does anyone know what to do? I don't want to refresh my S2 because 1) I would lose quite a bit of data from different apps and 2) the last time I did it my S2 barely made it...
Thanks a lot in advance!
ps: my S2 has the newest updates. The reliability monitor shows warnings like "Microsoft.Office.OneNote". It says that there was a problem with the windows update. There are also quite a few "microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_..." issues ... This kind of issues/warnings are listed for almost every day during the last week or so. For today there is a hardware issue listed, but no further information. But because of the issues with my apps accured more than a week ago I hope that the new hardware issue is nothing serious and not related...
