What Resolution Are You Gaming With On PC?

I've been running 4k for a few months now, on a LG 27UD68P monitor. My previous monitor was the same size, 27", but it was a Korean import Achieva Shimian 2560x1440 model.

I was running a 980Ti until recently, and although on a 27" 4k monitor AA is completely unnecessary and results in decent framerates with that GPU, I do miss getting near constant 60fps+ with 2560x1440 with it. Ended up buying a 1080Ti just so it bothers me a lot less.

One thing folk don't talk about much when discussing 4k gaming is just how badly some games scale to high DPI panels. Mass Effect 1 and 2 are great, they scale independent of resolution... and then suddenly ME3 has fixed assets that are miniscule on 4k without mods. And don't get me started on games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution - the text is about half a millimeter real size on screen, it's awful, and there's no way to fix it. Console ports do not always do well running at native 4K, and it doesn't really scale to a resolution other than 1080p exactly, which is a shame.

Nice

Great upgrade! I currently have a 980Ti (MSI), it runs flawlessly, I usually never get anything below 60FPS on 1080p and 1440p! Unless I purposely lock the frame-rates at 30FPS on games like Mafia 3 which feels good at 30FPS

1080p playing on TV.
RX 480 and i5 6500. I just max out all the visuals, except on CS:GO where i go with lowest settings.
Currently trying to finish Tales of Berseria, Rise of Tomb Rider and Recore. Next is Witcher 3 HoS/B&W.
Little bit MMO Wildstar and also backlogs..

That's some great games you got there!

Lowest settings on CS:GO? You PC looks like it could run it on highest settings or are you purposely doing this?

Witcher 3 was an amazing games!

Rise of the Tomb Raider was a great game with stunning graphics!

I haven't played recore yet but it seems cool to try.

Now Gaming at native 4K

Sporting a SONY KD-75S9005B 75" 4K TV and since yesterdays arrival of my GTX 1080 Ti also gaming at it's native resolution ( tested in NieR:Automata and DOOM )

Not so much noticing a difference in fidelity from what I used to play with ( because of this I do not see any sense for 5K+ ) but the new GPU sure makes everything run smoother which is a treat.

Nice!

DOOM is a great game! I absolutely love that game!

My old man just ordered the Titan X (Pascal)... he's crazy! But it's whatever, lol.

Highest setting on CS:GO is tempting, but i need to minimize possibility for frame drops, stuttering or lag. Though i use high settings on other battle arena.

Last time i play Witcher 3, i don't touch other games. And that is without expansions.. it's that good.

@DaiaX

Makes sense for CS:GO

Yeah, Witcher 3 is really good! Once I start playing it, every other game I have won't be touched for days! Lol.

1080p 60FPS Great! The sweet spot of frame rates and resolution.

Upgrading to the big and bad 1080 are you?! Sounds great! What GPU are you upgrading from?

I'd be moving up from a PNY GTX 970...I am enjoy the card and it runs Battlefield 1 on Ultra @ 1080p/60 so I can wait a few...instead of a Scorpio I may go for the GTX 1080...the lack of 4k content is holding me back. Although the 360 convinced me to but my first HD TV so many years ago...

Nice!

Did you edit your post? I thought I read some of it earlier, but couldn't reply at the time.

I'm not too big on 4K, I'll do 1440 every once in a while but I'll choose higher settings (High-Ultra) over higher resolution.

My 989TI is probably enough for me!

Go for it!! Lol, if you really want it, go for the big and bad 1080!! It's up to you.

Great thread, great responses :)

I game on a bit of an odd setup.
My screen is an HP L2245wg with a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. My graphics card however is an ASUS Strix GTX 970. So I am gaming sub-par res on a great graphics card.
Why? I have high demands! I am waiting for screen tech to support 4K @ 100+ FPS, 1ms respons time, along with a G-sync chip AND being an ISP panel. So far it does not exist, but I can wait for that since I waited this long :)

That looks gorgeous. Though... Is 1080Ti not better than Titan X when it comes to gaming?

@Rahsna

1680x1050! I use to have a monitor not too long ago with that resolution, I always thought it was 1080p for the longest time!

4K resolution with 100+ FPS, 1ms response time and G-Sync would be killer!

Yes the 1080TI is indeed faster than the Titan X (Pascal), but he got it for $500ish instead of the normal $1200+ but they were only selling 1. $500 isn't bad at all but spending over a $1000 is crazy, lol. He also liked the look of the Titan better, which I kinda do too. It would look nice in my Res and Black build.

Here's a pic without any of the the LEDs

Which is why it is worth while waiting for ;)

Wow, you too thought that? Heh... I suppose 3840x2160 is not native 4K either, so one would make the same "mistake" again then, however, I care not. Nor does anyone else :p In my case it will certainly be more than 4 times the total pixels I currently run ;)

1920x1200 on my trusty U2410 (complete with matching soundbar). Love having basically every input I'll ever need, including component for 480p Wii gaming when I want it

GTX 560 Ti 1 GB. Playing 1080p maxed where possible.

On old games, I can downsample from either 3K or 2K. On newer games, I either play maxed in 720p or if needed, 720p and lowest settings possible.

Eyeing an RX580 in the hopefully not too far future.

I'm Gaming at 1440p and it's great. I don't need anti aliasing anymore!

Cheers

Nice
I'll do 1440p here and there but only on special occasions

2560x1080.
A nice widescreen monitor! Can't go wrong with that!

I have a GeForce GTX 1080 8gb and a 65" 4K Vizio tv that does 240Hz and I'm playing GTA5 on the highest max settings 4k and it looks stunning! don't know what FR I'm getting but it runs butter smooth. also playing Doom in the highest settings 4k and is a blast to play on a 65" TV! the Vizio tv has a special input for gaming and allows me to do 120Hz even the old GTA 4 but expansion TLAD plays in 2k and it looks nice also!
