contract vs. unlocked MS store???

This may have been answered in a previous thread so please excuse me if it has.

I know buying from service providers saves money but I read that if I buy an unlocked 900 from MS store I don't have to wait on ATT to push out updates. True??? If so, how would getting updates work? To me not waiting on providers for updates is worth paying the full price for a phone.

What are some other benefits or cons?

I suspect that the situation with Nokia and ATT updates will be much different than updates for samsung and HTC phones I could be wrong but I believe that Nokia wants the 900 to do werll on ATT an will do everything it can to get any anfd all updates rfdeady and tested/approved by ATT even if they do it themselves.
