Hi All,

I'm buying a new 16 GB MicroSD (Sandisk Class 10) in next few days.
Now, I'm using 8 GB MicroSD and want to replace it with the new one.
My Lumia 520 is running on OS version 8.10.12397.895 (Developer Preview, Location: India)
I've installed many App and games on memory card and I want move all those to my new memory card.
I don't want to lose some points (as I'm not a skilled gamer) and install many apps again.

Is it possible?

Temporarily move all your apps and games to your phone memory. After replacing your SD card, move them back from phone memory to the memory card.

If you have enough phone memory then move all the apps to phone memory from sd card and later on move back them to new sd card.
.If you don't have enough phone memory connect your phone to pc via USB cable and enable all the option I have ticked in the attachment in view->folder options and copy wpsystem data from your sd card to pc and copy that wpsystem folder back to new sdcard. hope it might help you

it may not work if u do it through PC. u know, our phones are also based on FAT Systems similarly to PCs. if u copy card to card, FAT tables go all wrong and ur phone may not show anything except dump files. i never tried but this is logical. i will try and let u know. u also share ur experience.

the best way is transfer through phone memory only.

Not possible as there is very less space in my phone memory.
Anyway, even if there is space how can I move an app from SD card to Phone memory.
Suppose, I've installed Asphalt 8 on my SD card. How can I move it to my Phone memory? Steps please.

I'm thinking of transferring the data through Linux based OS (Ubuntu) as they will show all system hidden file.
I'll buy in 2-3 days. Lets see

go to storage sense->sd card->apps+games-> tap on Asphalt 8 there you will see option move to phone tap on it and your app will be moved to phone memory it will take some time depending on the size of app.

Asphalt 8 saves in cloud so you won't miss any Progress... Search for which apps save in cloud and transfer the others which doesn't... :)

Anyone verified this works? Never thought my 32 GB card will be insufficient, but I have a lot of movies. Need to move up to 64GB.

That did not work for me. The folder would not copy over in windows. I tried to clone it and resize the partition. That did not work, wp sees it as a new card and wants to format it. I also tried to copy it in Linux, but no luck, it was also seen as a new card. I guess I could have done something wrong, but none of my efforts worked. I ended up copying what I could to the phone and redownloaded the rest.

Did you try to put the NEW sd card in the phone, let the phone format it and THEN copy the old SD card to the new one via PC?

I did try that too, no luck. I even tried taking a disk image from memory card and writing it to another card and still no luck. Windows phone sees it as a new card and even though the data is there the phone doesn't even try to use it.

(sorry for upping old thread btw...)

So what I did is I moved those apps to the phone memory which I could and then I removed the old micro-sd and installed the new one. I then moved as many apps that I could to the new micro-sd and inserted the old card again and moved all the rest to the phone. Then I obviously removed the emptied old card and inserted the new one back in and organised those apps the way I liked them to be. Now it's working like a charm. It's a quite time consuming task but can be done that way.

I wish I had thought of that. Beats downloading everything again. It would be nice if there was an option to backup and restore to pc for something like this.

You can transfer all your apps to your phone memory from your old memory card, then transfer all the apps to your new sd. IF NOT POSSIBLE TO DO ALL AT A TIME.....do it part by part!, ir works, I have recently changed from 8gb to 32gb. Doing it part by part means.....1) remove your old memory card safely and keep it aside. 2) insert your new memory card and transfer data from your phone whatever is possible to free storage on phone. 3) remove your new sd card safely and keep aside. And put back your old sd card. Each time you remove or put back your sd you will have to restart your phone. 4) now, as,there is free space on your phone, move the apps and data from your old sd to phone. 5) then, remove your old sd,and put the new sd and then move the apps and data to your sd from phone memory. 6) YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS IN ONE GO!. REPEAT THE STEPS ABOVE by keeping on switching to old sd to phone then phone to new sd. IT WORKS! I experimented myself with my Lumia 525 . You may notice, there is NO work of a COMPUTER here. So you can do it wherever you want to with only your mobile and sd cards. Note: I had noticed a 2min no response from the mobile on changing the memory card and starting the phone. So do it patiently. Let the phone take its time.

(by sd card, I mean micro sd)

I never tried this (I don't have 2 cards) but it worth a try, plug both your SD cards to a PC, not with your phone, the SD card only. You'll notice there is a hidden folder called WPSystem, this is where all your installed app are, try to copy folder to your new SD card and put the new SD card on your phone.

I agree with mohit jaisingh that is the best way to keep your files but if your phone memory is full and you cant transfer any apps to it use the new card and transfer the apps on your phone to it and then take the old card and transfer the apps from it to the phone then to the new card and repeat until done then just transfer the apps that were on your phone back to your phone

That is ridicules. There is now workaround to migrate from sd card to other?
I have been using Microsoft for ages, and I always was happy with them, but I have to say, this windows phone is a biggest fiasco of Microsoft. Everything freezing a crashing on it. I even can’t open my contacts mostly. You don’t have enough programmers to do a proper product? Than fire a few hundreds managers, and get engage some extra programmers... that is simply like this.

Have you lads seen what interfaces and systems have been built during the last 5 years by some open source system as Debian/Ubuntu/Mint Linux... If you want to keep customers you have to work...
