In WP7 mp3 audiobooks cannot be played back faster like they can in windows media player. Can anyone comment on whether there are any changes to the music player in WP8? WP7's player is pretty bad (doesn't even have a 'scrub bar').

If not included by default in WP8, can any developers comment on whether WP8 has removed the obstacles which prevented a third-party player from changing the playback speed?

    Thanks!

I doubt there would be a demand for it. Just my 2 cents.

the iPhone does it, many people who listen to audio books listen at faster speeds, so I hope you are wrong.

It does not look like there is any way to change the playback speed. The 8.0 sdk does not have method on the background audio player to change the speed. Very disappointing.

There is indeed demand for this:

Variable Speed Playback – Feature Suggestions for Windows Phone

and I'll say that once I got used to 2x or 2.5x playback, 1x seems SO SLOW.
