What could be the strategy behind this?? Its going to be launched next month or in November...so does that mean we don't hear anything till then??

You didn't specify unlocked in your OP. I'm guessing $599ish for any of them. That is what comprable Android and iOS devices sell for.

Thats what a high end device costs off contract. You could probably pick up the 8S or the 820 for less.

the only issue with waiting is that the off contract price doesn't drop as much as the on contract price, but i suppose it is an option.

There are British sites selling preorders straight from HTC distributors. Adjusted for exchange rate and VAT, the 8X unlocked is around US$450 to $500, and the 8S is around $300.

Haven't seen/heard anything on the Nokias or Samsung.

If those prices are true, Nokia, & HTC have themselves some winners on their hands.

To be honest, if WP8 is to succeed, they need some serious quick selling hardware, and prices like these will almost guarantee that especially in the face of the iPhone 5 & Galaxy S3.
