Switching Nokia 920 content transfer question

Hello! I've been rolling with the Samsung Focus for almost two years now and am looking forward to having a Nokia Lumia 920 very soon. I want to make sure all of my content transfers to the new phone, especially my text message history.

All of my pictures and files are in my SkyDrive, of course, and my Hotmail contacts are, as well. But how does the transfer work? Do I understand correctly that the Lumia 920 doesn't use a SIM card in the same manner as my Focus? Do I need to manually upload anything to my account at windowsphone.com before switching over?

The Lumia 920 will likely (I don't know if it is confirmed) use a micro-SIM, so you'll get a new one. Microsoft hasn't said anything about being able to migrate nicely to a WP8 device, so no one knows if your text messages and app data (Obviously apps themselves can be redownloaded) will transfer
