Can default apps be updated through the store?

One of the cool things about Windows 8 is that the default apps (Mail, Calendar, Music, etc.) are decoupled from the OS and can be updated independent of OS updates via the store.

Does anyone know if this is the case for Windows Phone 8? I haven't seen any mention either way. It would be great if some of the neglected apps from WP7 (e.g. Calendar) could be updated without having to wait for a Mango-style OS update.

I suppose they could push app updates through OTA OS updates, but a much better and consistent experience would be to be able to update them through the store like Windows 8.

Not entirely sure if this is relevant but I just had a load of updates on my apps. One of those apps was the HTC app included on the HTC 8X. Not quite an actual WP8 core app but sort of.

Nokia "extras+info" under WP8 settings got updated so I am sure anything can be updated.
