Does anyone know if Xbox Music playlists on other devices will synch with Windows Phone 8? They don't appear to with Windows Phone 7.5.

Windows Phone 7.5 doesn't have Xbox Music support, you can only acess Zune services which shares the same music base.

I don't have a WP8 yet but I think Xbox Music is fully supported.

    I am so confused between Zune/XBOX Music/Windows 8/Windows Phone 8.
I originally had Zune and created my playlists there. When I upgraded to Windows 8 and XBOX music, I imported these playlists just fine. Then I bought a lumia 920 and connected it to my pc using windows phone app. Now the Windows Phone 8 shows all my playlist but no songs. I do not have music pass. The windows phone 8 app has option to add the songs by folder/song but does not detect my playlists. I cannot add music by songs/folders as I don't know which folder these songs are buried in :(.

What a mess. No guidance I am so lost. I consider myself an advanced windows user and if I could be so lost, I can imagine someone moving new into platform :(

    Can somebody please help.

I'm trying to figure this out too. I got my Zune playlist (with old Zune Pass songs) imported into Xbox Music on Windows 8, but now I can't figure out how to get it onto my phone (Lumia 920).

There is a desktop version of the windows phone app for Win 8 . The metro app doesn't seem to give many options.

I still agree its a bit of a mess... For the life of me I cannot figure out how to create a smart DJ play list and the sync it to my phone without using Zune... :'(

I plugged my Lumia 920 into my desktop which runs Windows 8 and later when I checked the playlists section all my playlists from Xbox music were there. However it did not sync the songs to the phone. It streams the songs and only synced what songs it could find in the cloud. I still can't find a way to get all the songs on the phone besides going through the file browser while the phone is connected over USB and add each song individually. I'll probably go into the Microsoft store on Monday with my Surface and see if they can show me. I like the unified experience, but it seems like they took 3 steps back to do it.

I'm pretty sure this is just broke. There's a bug in the WP App that doesn't seem to see what's in XBox Music, particularly playlists. It's bad times.

+1 I was up for hours last night with my new Lumia 822 trying to figure this out. The Sync application for Windows 8 desktop will transfer playlists but it seems to be using my old Zune playlists from my Windows 7 phone. I even tried adding a new playlist to that but it doesn't show up in the sync. Best solution I am finding on the net' is using Windows Media Player. Also beware - I believe I found a bug. If you add music to your phone using different methods, you may end up with duplicates and triplicates and they will show up multiples in your music list on the phone as well. I encountered this while trying all of the different half working methods to sync music to my phone. Its easy enough to get songs on the device, but playlists is a mess. These goofy issues remind me of when I first got my Windows 7 phone. I don't know how this was such an oversight? Really noone in Q/A thought about using or copying playlists on their Windows 8 phone? I thought having Windows 8 on my desktop and a Windows 8 phone I was golden. :(

Take a look at this Microsoft support article:
    *
Music app playlists are empty when viewed on Windows Phone 8
    *
"If your playlists contain songs from your computer's personal music collection, create the playlist in the Zune software or create the playlist in Windows Media Player and use the Windows Phone app for desktop to sync the playlist to your phone."

"If your playlists contain Xbox Music songs, get an Xbox Music Pass to play these on your phone."
    *
So if you are like me and don't use the Microsoft music pass:
    *
    1. Don't use the Windows 8, metro Windows Phone App
    2. Don't use XMBOX Music App
    3. Install Windows*Phone App for Desktop
    *
I already had synched with the metro Windows Phone app from my Windows 8 laptop, so I:
    *
1.* Wiped my phone (settings, about, reset phone), keep in mind this will wipe all data, so if you have anything you need on it then back it up first
    2. Went through setup steps on my phone, but did not connect it to my computer
    3. Removed the Music metro app (XBOX Music) and metro Windows Phone app
    4. Downloaded and Installed the Windows Phone App for desktop
    5. Recreated playlists I had deleted in trying to fix this issue by using my zune software and auto playlists, then closed the Zune software.
    6. Plugged in my phone to my computer
    7. Launched Windows Phone app for desktop
    8. Selected the music and playlists I wanted and clicked synch button
9.* Now my playlists are on my phone, but have no songs
    10. I clicked sync again and I noticed it still said I had 6 songs to sync, I clicked again a couple times and got down to 3 songs and an error popped up that these 3 songs couldn't be synced.*
11.*I closed the windows phone app
12.* I moved the 3 songs out of my music library to another location ( I used downloads)
13.* I opened the WP 8 desktop app and synched again.* Now it said synching my playlists at the bottom
    *
I now have all my playlists populated.* It must be the last thing that is synched and the error on the 3 songs prevented it from ever getting to it.

I am right there with all of you! This is an absolute mess... Microsoft, you call the Nokia 920 your flagship Windows 8 phone and you're leaving all of us here in the dust. Please give us some guidance!
