I installed Windows Phone Desktop App yesterday in preparation for this occasion.
Windows came up and installed Device Drivers without any error. Unplugged and plugged the phone back in, no response from my laptop. My 822 has a 16 GB SD card so yes, I was expecting something...(note: the SD card and the phone memory are both accessible through "My Computer" in Windows - for MAC users it will most likely show up as an icon on your desktop).
Using the Desktop App syncing music was pretty easy.
I found syncing photos to be difficult as it only found certain folders and not the ones I wanted. So I moved them manually to my SD card in My Computer.
When in doubt, do it manually.
