What (small) Windows phone 8 should i get for my wife?

It wouldn't hurt to purchase a Focus or Lumia 900 out of contract if they are available where you are. They can be had pretty cheap and will give her an idea as to what the WP platform has to offer.

About time to bump this thread, anything new coming to the US on AT&T? My sister in law has decided the 920 is too big for her small hands. We'll probably drop to an 8x, but she might want to go even smaller. Any new Nokia or HTC device coming soon since the 8s didn't make it here?

No small WP8 devices look to be going to ATT. TMobile is getting the Lumia 521. That's seems to be it.

620 with 200 ppi + is totally fine for a normal user.

It runs smooth and easy.

NEVER buy a Windows Phone with less than 8gb internal memory. So do not buy the Huawei or the HTC 8S
The 520, 620 or 720 seem your best options. Since the first and the last of those are not yet released, I would pick the 620. It is an amazing little phone.

there was a sale on HTC 8x for 280 brand new somewhere, Bing it. But for the price you can't beat that right now.

We just went to the AT&T store and she actually said she'd rather do an 820. It is smaller than the 900, enough to "feel" small enough with its rounded edges.

I've been using the 920, 810, and 620 for a while now and I have to say, neither of them fit in the hand nicer than the 620. And 800x480 is more than adequate for a 3.8" screen. I think Nokia really hit a sweet spot with the 620. It seems to have just the right blend of features, size, and price. Much more so than the 520 or 720 IMO.

Yeah now that I've done some research I think I'm going to order a 620. I just picked up an 820 on craigslist for a cheap price and she can take her pick. It's not clear to me yet if the 620 will only do 3G on AT&T or if it does a little faster HSPAwhatever, but she doesn't stream often and may not care.

720 or 620. I would hesitate in suggesting the 8s. The phone looks great but 4 GB storage is terrible.

1. Android
2. less than 400MB RAM
3. 600Mhz CPU
4. runs Android 2.2, what's too bad to even speak of, additionally he wants a Windows Phone.

You can get the 620 off contract at Amazon for around $250. It should work on ATT. 3G only though. I don't know about hspa 4G. Definitely no LTE though.
