OK, so I found the alarm clock, that was easy. But where do I find the stop watch and the timer? I use those much more often than I use the alarm...

No you don't pay. It is free. Tap on "Try" not "Buy".

If you do this, how long does this "trial" last?

    Forever.

I've used this app since WP7 NoDo.

I use 7StopWatch. Free, very simply and does what it's supposed to. Don't think it has any useful live tile though, but runs in the background.

For me this is the best app timer and stopwatch:

    Beautiful Timer:
    - Timer / Stopwatch runs in background
    - Work when phone is locked
    - Work when phone is off
