So the Portico update brings along two severe Bing Maps Bugs.

1. When you select an address from your contacts, Bing Maps will display where it is. If you now touch the arrow, it will not give directions
but tell you that you need to download an app for directions, there is no such app to download. This is obviously something for Nokia Maps...
If however you use the directions button from the bottom menu, Bing Maps will give you the directions like before!
Now, if there is a handle here for directions, it should be made available for Navigon just like for Nokia Maps.
Otherwise it should use the basic direction function from the menu button.

2. Updating your maps... If you select to update your maps... Bing Maps will start to download the map updates... However, the first map in your list
will be downloaded and will overwrite all your maps! In fact, the download progress of the first map becomes the progress for all the maps!
All your maps, become the first map in your list! Or at least Bing Maps will try to do just that.
Workaround: You need to first delete all your maps and download them again!

MS needs to fix this urgently.

The app it redirects to for directions on a Lumia phone is Nokia Drive. I though this app would be available on all the phones. Maybe it isn't yet because it's still in Beta?

What did it do before the update?

Its always done that, searched for an app that has the navigation API plugged into it. If nothing shows up, its because nothing is available yet that plugs into the navigation API. That means Navigon hasn't been updated with the correct methods to show up as a proper GPS app, and since Nokia Drive isn't available on non-Lumia devices yet, anyone who doesn't have a Lumia essentially gets a blank screen.

We're pretty much still at the very start of Windows Phone 8, so there are going to be gaps for some apps, such as GPS apps. Until Garmin updates Navigon or Street Pilot properly, it won't do a thing for the Bing Maps app, sadly.
