Currently the default uses the standard messaging system when im in my address book and want to SMS a person. Is it possible to use other than the default. I would like it to use my google voice account to send the text instead.

    Thanks in advance

No there is currently not a way to do this outside of a separate app. MetroTalk and GoVoice are two google voice apps which are pretty good but not integrated into the normal OS.
