E-mail password issues

I'm having weird e-mail password issues.
I recently changed my e-mail password. I was prompted to change it on my device (L920) and hit save.
Problem is, it never saved my password. Every time I synced, it would ask me to retype my password.

I deleted my mail profile and recreated it, hoping it would fix the issue.
However, it doesn't seem to accept the password at all now...it just says 'Syncing' for ages, with no progress, never downloading the messages.

In the system setting, under mail, the account is greyed out, with syncing below, but it never fully syncs.

Does WP8 not like certain characters in the passwords used? I made the password stronger, and the mail works fine at home, on phone via explorer, etc.
But not within the mail app.

Any ideas?

I remember someone here mentioning an issue that appeared to occur when they had an exclamation point in the password, don't know if that was the actual problem or a coincidence.

Hmm, I don't have an exclamation in my password, but other special characters. Nothing that isn't accepted everywhere else.

I wish Microsoft had guidance on this one because I will not compromise a strong password
