    on my lock screen all of a sudden i am getting these icons at the top, i powered phone off & on & still see them. there is a set of what look like media player buttons (even though nothing is playing)
    and a strange transmittor sort of icon.

    i googled the link below describing icons and this is the closest that looks like my icon, but it says interenet sharing is enabled, which is not my case

    that means its streaming music from the cloud. Most probably means you've got the setting on for playing your xbox music cloud collection

    yep, it's the streaming icon. Since there's no info, it's whatsapp. It uses an empty media stream to keep Wifi alive when you lock the screen.
