new at windows phone

I have to choose in the company I work for, between iPhone and Windows Phone. I have a BlackBerry z10 and a Galaxy S3 that I had chosen on previous years.
I have one question, can anyone tell me what would happen if I only need and want one tile in Windows Phone? can I get rid of all the tiles and just stick with the one I need? Say I need only 5 tiles and nothing else, or even just 2 tiles. I don't like intrusiveness in my homescreen and I couldn't care less about facebook updates from my "friends" (jk I have no friends... or life) or stuff like that. I only need information of new emails or new SMS. stuff that matters.

I have not tried having one tile but I see no reason why you couldn't. Tile can be removed or added at will.

You can have zero tiles if you want, and just have the apps list.
