A while back I tried to install BBC iPlayer. It said I needed to set up an Xbox account first. WTF? I gave up. I wasn't really that fussed about the app. I don't even have an Xbox. I don't want an Xbox. I haven't got time for an Xbox, fun as I'm sure they are. Just tried to install Nokia JobLens. Same thing. WTF is this all about? Can any of you guys enlighten me as to why I need an Xbox account to install these apps? Lumia 820. Thanks in anticipation.

No, you don't understand. I've got a Microsoft account, and I've had one since I got my phone last December. You can't do f**k nothing with your phone unless you've got a Microsoft account. I've got one of those. That's not the issue. My phone tells me I need an Xbox account to install these apps. So what ****'s that??? Why do I need an Xbox account to install these apps? Please help me!

That's the question you need to ask BBC for. No other apps require this. From what I can tell, BBC wants to be paid in order for you to use the app to watch the TV shows. Naturally, MS needs to offset that fee by tie it to Xbox live subscription. So, you need to supply Xbox Live account to verify that you are eligible for it before the app will allow you to watch the TV shows.

Thanks foxbat121. I could almost buy that, but why do I get the same thing trying to install JobLens? I've tried directly via the store and using the QR code on WPC but no joy. I still get this you need an Xbox account thing. This is so annoying. Is it the way my phone's set up, or do most people have an Xbox account so they never notice this issue? I'm baffled.
