I wouldn't begrudge Apple for Facetime. They pioneered it and those that use it like it. Microsoft will put something together that will make us all more proud to be here. This is far from over. I've seen Microsoft in action. Once they get focused on an idea, they won't be stopped. Why else is google dropping a Nokia look-alike called Moto X? They know their days are numbered.

They act as though they invented video chat though and that's certainly not the case.

But they perfected it. I'm surrounded by a family of facetimers of all ages and am amazed how easily everyone picks it up. I'm hoping our windows phones continue to improve in all areas.

Perfected it? No. It's on a very limited platform that's not even the most popular platform, it doesn't offer much in the way of features and Skype or tango is much better. Ease of use for morons doesn't make it perfect.

It works, better quality than Skype. I hate to admit it but it does.

when you have only 2 out of 10 phones around you that are capable of it, its like telling someone PC HD skype talk beats everything.

Z33 i think you just called my family a bunch of morons......but I digress. According to "Motley Fool" Though Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) doesn’t share user statistics for its mobile applications, FaceTime is estimated to have a larger base for its video calling app compared to Microsoft’s Skype.

Everyone forgets its only recently that you can Facetime from anywhere! AT&T blocked it for years.

Skype however has always worked on data networks anywhere the phone has gone.

I'm saying it is how they roll at Microsoft. When they move, they tend to move big. If it takes until 2015 to get to second place, even that is less than 16 months from now. I expect I'll be around for it then. In the meantime, I expect so much excitement around the platform, we won't notice.

Apple does excel at making eco-systems very very easy to use. This is one example, you can initiate a video call from a regular cellular call using facetime, this seems like something that would be intuitive and common sense but it is not since this is not the case with Skype.

Another example is iTunes vs Zune; the iTunes interface/eco-system is soooo simple that anyone can use it and the have. MS had a far better player in the Zune, but it was the poorly thought out cumbersome interface and eco-system that killed them. Even now with Xbox live and the Xbox music store and the terrible interface that is a windows play first and a second-rate media management system is hurting them. Come on MS I am a fan, how hard is it to build simple intuitive systems that are not all convoluted and require multiple steps to perform a simple chore.

Unfortunately, ease of use for "morons" is where the bar is set. Tango was frickin awesome!! So sad there's no WP8 support.

I'm going to cite something here. VHS vs. BetaMax and/or BlueRay vs. HD-DVD...... BetaMax was the much better platform but it was the, get ready for it, PORN industry that adopted VHS as its standard. Same with the disc wars.. Apple got its way when it did, based on marketing and "sex appeal".. My HTC 8X blows it away though. Yum!!!! But it is what it is. That's why I let everybody put their hands on it..
