I'm guessing the answer is no based on my searches, but I'll ask anyway...

Is there an app, utility, etc that would allow me to set the Start Screen background to dark yet keep the light background for use in apps?

I really prefer the dark for the start screen, but find it hard on the eyes for reading...

    Thanks. :)

In some apps you can change it under settings, but its up to the developer to make that option

The mail app allows you to choose between light and dark backgrounds, regardless of your main setting.
