Notification center

With all of this discussion about the notification center and how it should act and where it should be located, I thought I would throw in my hat for the design. I really dislike the swipe at anytime from the left or top or whatever some people keep suggesting, but I do like the idea of being able to reach it from wherever you are in your phone. The multitasking screen proved the obvious choice, with its ample unused space as well as the fact that it lets you peek into the under workings of the phone. Let me know what you guys think!

A hold of the back button and then another press is too many steps for a notification center.

Double tap of the Windows button is going to open the notification center and it's going to be called What's going on

Article on here a while back. On the phone now, will find it later

Doesn't really make sense considering the OS would have to be ever so slightly slower going back to the home screen to see if the operator is going to press it once of twice...

I am going to say that article didn't happen considering the most recent articles tagged with "notification center" didn't contain that.

It's called the What's going on area, what do you think that would refer to?

Daniel also called it a 5 out of 10 on the rumor scale meaning it could go either way. I get what your saying, but it is hardly reliable to tell someone that is what is going to happen. Could it? Sure. But no one knows.

I'm not sure how you could get it down to any less if you're in an application. Swiping from the side or top is not a very useful approach. Unless you had another suggestion?

I'm not sure what I would do. The approach I like the most is Blackberry's: Swipe from the bottom center up and to the right. It is quick and easy on the thumb.

Why not a long press on the search button? Right now, a long press there does exactly the same thing as a short press.

Yeah that sounds fine, less intrusive than a single direction swipe as I always end up doing that unintentionally, however that sounds like something they would have patented.

Not a bad idea, though I find myself adjusting my hand slightly every time I use my thumb to hit search. Again, I can't imagine something better right now then BB's approach. I will say that swiping from the top does stink though.

Possibly. But it is the idea of using a natural motion for what the user does a lot.

Oh I get that, though I suppose the quickest way to integrate it into wp would be just to have the long press on search as wpfan86 suggested. It might be a little less natural, but then every key would have a secondary and I mean, how often would you need to use the notification center?

I use it a decent amount when I am on the Z10 (I switch between phones). I don't use as much on Android phones because of having to swipe from the top, and there are 50 things going on in most Android notification centers that pull your attention away from the original purpose. I would like a WP hub that works a lot like the BB hub.
